This photograph explores the enduring beauty of a fallen leaf—an object that, having completed its vibrant life cycle, continues to captivate. In its prime, this leaf bore witness to changing seasons, interacting with its environment and sustaining life through photosynthesis. Now detached, it enters a transitional phase. As it returns to its carbon form through the process of decay, it does not merely disappear; it transforms, revealing intricate new textures and hidden, fractured colours.

I recognise a profound parallel between the leaf’s degradation and the universal stages of all existence. To honour this shared journey, I have captured the leaf and evolved its form into a repeating geometric pattern. This structure directly correlates with two powerful archetypes in art history: the Gothic rose stained-glass window and the sacred mandala.

Historically, both the rose window and the mandala serve as meditative frameworks in art, using radial symmetry to represent wholeness, the cosmos, and the infinite wheel of time. By mapping the organic decay of a single leaf onto this disciplined, geometric architecture, the piece bridges the fleeting reality of nature with the eternal structures of art. It invites the viewer to see the sacred geometry hidden within natural decline, proving that even in completion, there is a beautiful, radiating evolution.
